The superb Suzuki XF650 Freewind has been largely forgotten since its launch in the 1990s over the more popular BMWF650 and Aprilia Pegaso. The BMW and Aprilia were both based around the Rotax 650 engine and also shared some common cycle parts.
Like all bike single cylinder bikes of the era they usually ended up as a daily commuter with a topbox and heated grips, often ridden hard through all weathers. This usually leads to corrosion problems for cycle parts and exposed engine parts.
Always give the bike a very thorough check before buying. If used as a commuter they’ve probably been dropped and had mirror broken-off, so check for bent handle bars and scuffed bar-end weights.
If you are fortunate enough to find a well looked after example of the Suzuki Freewind you’ll probably want to keep for a long time. These bikes are still popular with green lane riders and grey haired bikers looking for the comfy big single experience without the hassle of an older vintage British bike with a kick-start.
