A lot of have forgotten that the original Honda Goldwing actually started out as a street bike before becoming the long distance touring bike we recognise today. Many of the original 1970s examples have survived today, and have a strong following in the collector and custom scene, proving to be a great platform for a cafe racer or bobber conversion.
The flat 4 cylinder 1000cc engine is a real peach, very easy to service and very reliable when serviced at regular intervals. The modern versions obviously use fuel injection, whereas the older models use carburettors and will require regular attention to avoid clogging with modern fuels and corrosion of seals.
Honda Goldwing 1976 for sale
This 1976 example is currently for sale on ebay, and will need recommissioning, the Carburettors will need a clean as one is flooding, the petrol tank is sound but will need flushing out. The brakes are not seized on but will need attention. the Tyres are perished and will need replacing. Also recommend replacing the cam belts, new ones in 2007 but its been standing a long time. The detachable frame rail on the near side is corroded and will need repair/ replacing at some point, this is a common fault on early Goldwings.
The frame rail that supports the centre stand has been repaired at some point just behind the near side footrest, again a common problem on these bikes.
The front forks have excellent chrome and the rear shocks are Hagon units in good condition, all chrome is very good with no rot in the mudguards and only minimal deterioration. The disks are good and the wheels are sound. The seat is original and in excellent condition, The exhaust headers are stainless steel and the silencers are sound and l think they have been chromed at some point. I think the paintwork is original and is showing its age, a bit faded in places and has some discolouring from brake fluid spillage.
