Bob Markey’s Favorite Indian!
Bob Markey’s 1953 Indian Chief is for sale! He was an Indian Dealer and an Indian Racer. He rode a lot of other year and model Indians – Four Cylinders, Sport Scouts, Junior Scouts, other Chiefs and other motorcycles, but this 1953 Indian Chief was his favorite!
He restored this bike in 1973 and started riding it in 1974, he rode it until 2011 when he couldn’t ride anymore. When it was restored he used a LOT of New Old Stock Genuine Factory Indian parts, including all of the sheet metal. And if it wasn’t New Old Stock, it was the best used original parts available. It has very few reproduction parts on it. All Indian riders should have a chance to ride a bike with mostly new old stock parts, put together correctly!!!
It was well maintained over the years, of course, with approximately 45,000 miles on it. There was at least one rebuild during those miles. This machine was always a solo seat bike (with seat post) and linkert controls. A five digit number, it was one of the last 300 built. We do not think it was ever a police bike. It also has a Special Dual Exhaust System that we made, with two correct 1952 to 1953 mufflers.
