1990 Honda Vfr750
I bought this bike in early 2023 to get back into motorbiking after about a year break. I had a crash at around 15mph where the front wheel lost traction and I fell off. the bike slid a few metres down the road on its left side. There were no other vehicles involved, and I didn’t claim on insurance or anything. Since then, the bike has been through 2 MOTs with the only advisories being chain tension and exhaust too loud. There has been no indication that the frame was warped or anything, and the only parts that made contact with the ground were the bodywork panels.
Since then, I have attempted to repair those panels with fibreglass and hot staples, and respray in the original red paint.
I have been offered a bike which I am more interested in from a friend, so I am selling this.
Mechanically, it is in very good condition for its age.
* I will confirm the points with asterisks ASAP but they are from memory
The good:
new Michelin Pilot Sport 6* on the front around 300 miles ago
new Michelin Pilot Sport 6* on the rear around 50 miles ago
new DID chain and sprocket set around 50 miles ago
new brake pads front and rear around 600 miles ago.
rear seat cowl (these are incredibly rare and it cost me around £100 with cracked paint. I have since resprayed it.
Delkevic upswept exhaust (you can see the Micron exhaust which was on the bike when i bought it, i will also give you that)
carburetors were rebuilt with fresh gaskets and balanced around 1000 miles ago.
new HT coils, leads, and sparks as the old coils had some moisture ingress and weren’t producing the best spark.
around 42k miles * on the bike, which matches the MOT values, and is a very low value for these bikes.
Double bubble windscreen in smokey gray.
The bad:
light patches of surface rust on some parts of the bike as to be expected for something this old
runs hot (as do most VFRs due to the V4 engine, hence why modern Ducati V4s have rear cylinder deactivation)
runs rich, hence the carburetor rebuild to see if anything weird was done to the jets. it’s all stock.
The ugly:
Bodywork is rough, especially on the left side. it’s totally rideable, securely fixed to the bike, but it looks rough up close.
This bike would suit someone with skills for respraying and fibreglassing bodywork, or who is willing to wait for better condition panels to come up on ebay, or who is wanting to replace the bodywork with race replicas (kits are available on ebay) or who just wants a reliable winter hack and doesn’t care if it’s in showroom condition.
contact me to arrange viewing. I have insurance on it so I can deliver within a reasonable distance.
sensible offers considered
