1977 Kawasaki Z1000 A1 refurbishment project

I bought this bike when I was 19. I am 62 soon and last rode it in 1987. I got married etc and it had to go into storage in bits as a future restoration project “when I had time”!!

I don’t know where the last 35 years has gone but they went very quick! I am now nearly 62 and was adamant that I’d rebuild it one day but although I have the know how, I simply don’t have the time as I’m still working full time and have elderly parents to look after etc.

This bike has done 37 thousand miles and a few. It does kick over and has had oil in it for the duration of its storage.

I have just over 5k worth of parts included in this sale as you will see from the three parts list photos (you may have to zoom in a bit).

There are some second hand parts which are labelled s/h or with a brief explanation on the parts list of where they are from (for example the carbs are 29mm from Australia and refurbished as new).

Then only bits missing for a complete rebuild are tyres/ rim tapes/ banjo bolts and brake lines/ standard brake calipers/ standard swing arm plus a battery. Possibly a few small bits of this and that may be needed in rebuild.

I have schematic diagrams for caliper brackets to go on standard forks which will allow the fitting of Brembo P60 brake calipers.

There would have to be a bit of skullduggery at the back brake wise as there is a Davida box section swing arm in the parts list. A good engineer/ bike boffin would be able to suss this out very easily I reckon.

It always did handle well especially with someone riding pillion as I am only just over 10 stone and the suspension settled better with two on board! I think the Z1000 frames were a bit more substantial then the 900’s which may be why I had no problems.

I must mention that when approaching a roundabout and closing the throttle, a small puff of smoke would be seen coming out of the left hand side exhaust momentarily. Therefore, a 1075 piston kit is included in this sale as I was convinced that a re-bore was necessary. I have been advised that the bore would have to go to 72mm and that the existing sleeves would be ok so no need to replace them.It may be one tired valve guide but I did replace all valve guide rubbers way back so possibly not a guide.

I would be happy to discuss or email but I don’t think eBay allows it apart form on its own messaging system.

I am based in Beccles in Suffolk. The bike is in storage nearby. It is for sale as a refurbishment project and not as separate parts so please don’t ask.

Buyer can collect if that suits and obviously we can go through the whole parts list to check them all off to ensure their presence before I help you load up.

I will deliver if necessary depending on mileage and will want to arrange a price for delivery.

You will probably want to check off all part at your end if I deliver before unloading and if happy I’ll need a bit of help lifting the main bike off after payment has been made.

Please pay attention only to these payment options as I’m not hugely familiar with getting the eBay payment options sorted too well!! You can pay with a bank transfer, cash or PayPal. I’m fairly certain that I’ll be allowed to message you my bank account details for transfer to be arranged.

Thanks for looking and happy bidding.

Cheers

Stan
