1963 Moped AV40
Found in a junk shop just over two years ago resplendent in faded Metallic Red with red rusty wheels, perished tyres and no documents, since then it has been sympathetically restored by myself with the aid of local enthusiasts, the main expenditure has been on rebuilding the wheels and recommissioning the engine.
The wheels have had new rims ,tyres and inner tubes ( from Mopedland ) rebuild on to the existing hubs complete with new handmade spokes by the best wheel builder in the North East. The engine was decoked and replacement ignition parts fitted all to ensure reliability.. The carburettor was full of white crystals and despite lots of cleaning it refused to work correctly and was replace with a new correct specification Gurtner carb.
The paintwork had the patina that only 60 years of neglect can bring, but was fundamentally sound so I decided that a oily rag finish would enhance the existing finish. For this I used a product called Owatrol which has both protected the bike from further corrosion and gives a nice finish.
The bike came with the original metal leg shields and one chain guard , I was fortunate to find a replacement fibre glass replacement which I sprayed with a paint which was a close match to the original red metallic. I have a V5 in my name together with an age related plate. The bike is based in the North East close to the A1
