AJS Model 31 Mathless G12 650
Welcome to the sale of my AJS Model 31 from 1960. This was a misty eyed emotional purchase brought upon by the passing of my uncle. Whilst attending to his affairs I found a black and white photograph of him from the 60s on a similar model. I initially tried to find the exact bike but as I was unable to find it bought this. I’ve had bikes most of my life, since the 70s, but this was my first foray in to old British bike ownership. Needless to say all my metric tools were largely useless and I had to dust off my BSW, AF, etc. spanners and socket set. That’s as far as I got. Despite the best intentions to restore and ride, I just haven’t found the time and the bike has sat in my store room at work. It was running when I bought it, but I haven’t touched it apart from wheeling it about the store room. Despite the friendly advice and cajoling from members of the AJS/Matchless Owners Club I’ve had to admit that I’ll never get round to sorting it, hence the sale. The previous owner told me it had electronic ignition fitted, I have a receipt for a major engine refurb in 1999 but as you can see form the images it’s a bit frayed around the edges. If you’re in to these bikes you’ll know that there is a very good owners club with excellent, plentiful and cheap spares availability. You’ll probably have it running in a couple of hours. I’d like to get back what I paid for it but understand that money is tight for most these days and a 1960s motorcycle might not be top of the shopping list. Bike is available to collect from my office in Cambridge, just off the A14. Bike is registered in my name and home address. Any questions or if you wish to view, message me through eBay. Thanks for looking. |
