2000, Triumph Thunderbird 900 with King & Queen Seat + Panniers & 12 months MOT
I purchased this Triumph Thunderbird 900 in June 2021 from a friend who regularly used it for commuting. I wanted to have a project to bring back to mint condition, (which I have no yet achieved) and believe this is ideal for someone who wishes to pick up where I left off. The bike runs well, it needs a little tweak for the low end response, I am working on it and this may be sorted pre-sale. I have overhauled the Keihin carbs and replaced the air filter with a K&N, the carbs are perfectly balanced. I have replaced the carb seals and the carbs are ultrasonically cleaned, the float valves have also been replaced. The carbs are set at 2.5 turns out and I think maybe another half turn required for the final performance tweaks. I have checked and replaced the valve shim clearances. All have been replaced as necessary. Some were a little on the tight side but now all are in spec. I have replaced the valve cover gasket which may need reseating as there is a tiny dribble of oil as (in the picture) on the left front corner. I aim to take a look at this in the next couple of weeks if I still have it. The battery is brand new. I have removed and checked the clutch, all is well within in spec and should be good for plenty more miles. I have purchased and fitted a new genuine water expansion bottle. I purchased a king and queen seat which is in the photo, the original seat is also included in the same sale (will add photo soon). The sale includes the Triumph front screen which can easily be removed. The sale includes genuine Triumph throw over panniers. (not in photo – will add soon) It has had a recent oil + filter change using quality Castrol oil. The water has been flushed and has fresh anti-freeze. Things to note. The front wheel bearings need replacing, they are an advisory on the MOT done last week. An easy and cheap replacement that I hope to do in the next couple of weeks if I still have it. There is a small area of rust on the back of the front mud guard and the rear mud guard. Nothing major, my last job on the restoration was intended to be a paint job. I have replaced bits and bobs as I have gone on but there may be a few nuts and bolts that could do with replacing due to surface rust if the perfect look is required. There is a very small tear in the K&Q seat that has been repaired (see photo) The right exhaust has two small seized mounting bolts, something I intend to address if I get the chance. They cause no problem. The bike is 22 years old and I am the 3rd keeper. It is in good condition considering it has been used regularly and has not been a ‘show bike’. The bike is taxed and insured and I do occasionally ride it, it is not my primary ride so mileage will increase but not much. This is a lovely bike that can be ridden away. It is very reliable but if you are looking for a bike to ride now and be a project for winter, this is ideal. It really just needs some cosmetic work to bring it back to its former glory. I am not in a rush to sell and will keep working on it until sold or (if not sold). I am not going to let it go for a silly price, but the more work I complete on it, I would expect the price to increase. Viewing can be arranged any time, I am in Ormskirk. You are fine to have a test ride as long as I have the cash in my hand and you are insured. This listing is to purchase the bike. If you have any questions, or want to view, please just ask. Payment is cash on collection or Bank Transfer. The bike will not be released until funds are cleared. |
